UC San Diego Extension has a four-decade track record of helping boost the university's local impact, national reputation and global reach. Extension annually educates 40,000 people through innovative local, corporate and online programs.

Each year about 20,000 individuals enroll in Extension's 2,000 university-level professional and enrichment courses to enhance their knowledge for today's shifting global economy. That includes 4,000 online learners and 2,200 visiting students from 45 countries. For the convenience of working adults, classes for most of Extension's 100 certificate programs and more than 12 specialized study programs are held evenings and weekends on the UCSD main campus and three other locations in Sorrento Mesa, Rancho Bernardo and Mission Valley. Another 20,000 are reached through public lectures, onsite corporate training, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and the Emmy Award-winning UCSD-TV that reaches 1 million local homes and a worldwide audience through the latest in on-demand Web delivery technologies.
